Who ya gonna call? Nov 7 2005
This is perhaps the coolest news that I’ve seen all day. Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!
CommentsNew blog! Nov 7 2005
I have re-written my blogging software, and am now running on my new app! The new software supports comments, trackbacks, and overall is a lot smoother. Next few days, I will attempt to move over my old posts. Until then, new updates will appear here :-)
CommentsSwitched blogs Nov 7 2005
So I’ve finally switched to this blog software, cutting over all my old posts, and also updating the software to cope with post tagging. Also changed www.ejdraper.org.uk to point to this blog. Now I plan on blogging a bit more often, on everything from the many projects I’m involved with (Amber, xFramework etc), to my guitars and the music I play, maybe even extending to the murky waters of the current political climate! Keep it tuned here.
CommentsxFramework Nov 1 2005
Now that I’ve gotten the new blog software written, I’m going to concentrate my spare time on working on xFramework again now. Specifically in fact, building a couple of applications I’ve had ideas for on top of xFramework. This means as I go along, useful, re-usable bits of code will be added to the xFramework codebase, and so the library of extensible re-usable components should continue to grow. I also want to reach a stage where I can do a stable release of each of the components, and then the framework as a whole, and then applications built around xFramework can be built against a specific released snapshot of the library, instead of simply ‘the latest version’. This will resolve some small dependency issues that have been creeping into some of the smaller apps I’ve built upon the framework. Either way, looking forward to the framework expanding and becoming more and more useful!
CommentsCrate Powerblock CPB150 Nov 1 2005
So I purchased a Crate Powerblock CPB150 amp recently, along with one Crate GT112SL cab. I planned on getting two, but I could only find one place that’d ship them, and they only had one in stock. Got it all plugged in, and been using my Ibanez guitar, and for such a tiny little amp, it packs a huge punch! There are rave reviews all over the ‘net, but suffice to say I’m impressed with the amp connected to just one cab, imagine what it’d be like getting it connected to the maximum four cabs! Mmmm…..
CommentsxFramework Oct 2 2005
So I’ve made the xFramework site, and the source, live now. The public svn repo is anonymous read-only, I’ll accept patches and contributions under the LGPL via e-mail for now (el@eldiablo.co.uk), before I get some proper mailing lists setup for discussion and contributions. In the mean time, the website will keep improving as I get round to adding more and more information, and I hope to make some kind of concerted effort to make a binary release at some point. Until then, here’s hoping someone gets some mileage out of the framework, as thats what its there for!
CommentsFixed? Sep 29 2005
Ok so just tweaked the PgSQL post table structure, realised the reason each post appears at midnight cos I was using a date field, not a timestamp… d'oh! Lucky there wasn’t thousands of posts in the post table, it was fairly easy to change, and I’ve updated all related views and functions etc. Also, the main blog page only displays the most recent 10 entries now, to make things clearer. Hopefully, as of this post, the actual time will be assigned to the post correctly!
CommentsWahoo! Sep 29 2005
Yep, I was right, that worked, check out the time on these posts!
CommentsAmber progress Sep 18 2005
So these last few days, the progress and discussion on Amber has increased significantly. In the last few weeks, we have had three more team members come on board, and this has started to produce far more discussion and thoughts than before. I feel that the design is getting some real work done, and soon I hope to get back to the code, starting first with designing the interfaces, secondly working further on configuration, then thirdly a few of the profile implementations. After this, the service host object will need to be written, and we can start to test some early implementations to see what happens. Exciting times!
CommentsNew e-mail client Sep 18 2005
I’ve been lamenting the poor performance of Thunderbird recently (it could be my mail server, but I’m running that myself so I don’t want to think that that could be the problem :-). I was just thinking earlier today about how I couldn’t think of any other big e-mail clients besides Thunderbird and Outlook on Windows (I’d love to see a port of Evolution 2.0) when I read about a new Java client that looks pretty snazzy, and has had 3 long years of development. This client is Columba. I’m gonna give it a go and see what I think!
